The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, widely considered the first true horror film comes to McHugh’s. On Halloween night the 1920 German silent horror film will wake from its sleep and be brought to life with a live musical score by Breifne Holohan to terrify the masses!
The mysterious Dr. Caligari arrives in a rural German village with his companion Cesare, a man in an eternal state of sleep who can be ordered to perform his master’s commands. A series of gruesome murders ensues leaving the village distraught and suspicious of its two new arrivals.
Local Drogheda musician, Breifne Holohan will give a performance accompanying the film as originally done in early silent movies, through improvisation, responding to the film as it unfolds. Replacing the piano typical of the silent classics, the music will be performed entirely with electronics using synthesizer, electronics and guitar.
