Seán is from Drogheda, Co Louth, Ireland. He has been active in the Irish Folk Music scene since 2019. Irish Music Magazine remarked on his debut album Dreaming is Allowed “Mathews has a good way with words in the songs on offer here and he delivers the tracks with a sense of real feeling that must come across very powerfully in live performances.”

As a member of the Drogheda singers (an unaccompanied singing group meeting weekly over 40 years now) Seán has been influenced by the elder singers in his community. The borderless, non-zealous attitude that the Drogheda Singers have shown to all comers has been an inspiration to Seán and a tradition he intends to follow for life.
